The 2026 focus is evangelism and reciprocal community relationships. Experimental grants fund small tests up to $500; Community Engagement Impact grants range from $1,001 to $5,000.
Congregations need a vitality assessment completed within 24 months, current diocesan reports/audit and Mutual Ministry Support, and willingness to share learning.
You’ll need
Resolve the deadline with Jacquie Johnson at jjohnson@epiok.org before applying: the overview says October 1, 2026, while both grant-type sections say November 1, 2026.
Our note: Use the correct Experimental or Large application linked on the page only after confirmation; allow roughly two weeks for experimental review or six weeks for large-grant review.
Experimental grants require no additional congregational funds unless needed to complete the project. Large grants require a financial contribution in addition to grant funds; no minimum percentage is specified on the page.
Projects must occur/start within 60 days of award/funding as specified for the grant type, and unused funds must be returned on the stated timeline.
Watch for
Experimental projects must be one-time, outside Sunday morning, and not individual projects, existing programs or work aimed only at current members. Community-service proposals must identify a community partner and prioritize relationship-building.
Large grants exclude individual and internal/existing programs and requests exceeding $2,000 for capital improvements. Only one Vitality Grant may be held at a time; failure to report or return funds can block future grants.
Not confirmed: the definitive capital-cost rule; the detailed large-grant section permits project-essential capital work up to $2,000, while another exclusion bullet contains contradictory draft wording.
Important: original snapshot conflict. The original snapshot says “Open until Nov 1, 2026.” The official page also says the 2026 program closes October 1, although its two grant-type sections retain November 1. As of October 17, opening status is unresolved; do not rely on the snapshot as an assured open deadline.1
Entire Vitality Grants page read. It contains inconsistent 2026 closing dates and an apparent editing artifact in its capital-cost exclusions; these remain unresolved. Linked forms not reviewed.
