For an unanticipated emergency affecting a significant historic, purpose-built house of worship in the US/territories, owned by an active faith community. Applicants are congregations at least three years old or closely affiliated nonprofits. The property must serve a community-minded congregation that serves nonmembers; temporary emergency displacement is permitted when normal use can resume after repairs.
You’ll need
Contact interventionfund@sacredplaces.org for staff screening; applications are invitation-only, rolling, through Foundant. Invited applicants have 30 days to submit; review may take up to 30 days.
Our note: Send an emergency description, repair scope, cost estimate and available insurance/funding information for screening; confirm approvals before treating work as grant-eligible.
Up to $100,000 with no cash match. For a larger project, staff expect a credible source for remaining costs. An Intervention award normally reduces the later National Fund capital-grant amount available.
Watch for
Deferred maintenance alone usually does not qualify. Only one Intervention grant per congregation; prior National Fund capital-grant recipients are generally excluded unless staff make an exception. New construction, AV/security upgrades and completed pre-award capital projects are excluded.
Award conditions include completing the project within one year of disbursement, submitting a final report and accounting within one month of completion, and returning funds if the project is not completed according to the grant agreement. These are post-award obligations, not application deadlines.
