Up to $20,000 for study or research by pastoral leaders in US or Canadian Christian settings; eligible candidates need theological preparation and credentials from a recognized church body.
You’ll need
The August 12, 2026 deadline has passed. The published project period is January 1, 2027–June 30, 2028. Applications use the online portal and require narrative, budget, bibliography, CV, ministry context, two recommendations and support affirmation.
Our note: Ask grants@louisville-institute.org about the next intake; do not treat the visible Apply button as an open cycle.
Approved travel and lodging for the mandatory January 2027 grantee consultation are covered by LI.
Watch for
Not degree funding, normal salary for an existing job, new ministry staffing or everyday office equipment. PhD/ThD students are ineligible; previous LI awards must be completed with final reports submitted.
Only one Louisville Institute grant or fellowship application is permitted between June 1, 2026 and May 31, 2027.
Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary staff, faculty, trustees and students, and their immediate family (parents, spouses or children), are ineligible. Louisville Institute Advisory Board members and their immediate family are also excluded.
Recipients may not simultaneously hold two individual grants from Lilly Endowment-funded organizations totaling more than $55,000. This is an award-interaction restriction, not the Pastoral Study Project award ceiling or a matching requirement.
Not confirmed: a cash match or application fee.
